In conversation with Jivamukti Yoga Rome Studio Founders, Jutta, Benedetta, Chiara and Giulia.

1) What inspired you to open a Jivamukti Yoga studio?
Our inspiration was to create a welcoming and supportive “home” for the Jivamukti Yoga method, its practitioners, and its teachers. We aimed for a space where everyone feels free to share and where the teachings are transmitted exactly as handed down by the lineage’s founders. Ultimately, our goal is for the studio to encourage everyone to live up to these teachings and integrate them into their daily life—the kind of space we all wish we had.

2) How would you describe the mood of your studio in three words?
Hip and chic, yet classic and traditional, without ever losing its authenticity.

3) What’s the most unique fact around your studio?
Plants. Since the studio opened, the building’s concierge has lovingly arranged plants inside and outside our space. She refreshes the display almost every other day, creating a constantly new and fresh atmosphere.

4) Which teachers are currently offering 500HR Jivamukti Apprenticeships at the studio?
One of our teachers is able to offer JTAP for now , but currently does not have any apprentices.

5) How does your studio contribute to the local community?
Beyond community classes, charity events, and Satsang, Jivamukti Yoga Rome has fostered a strong community whose members support each other through times of joy and need.

6) What do you love the most about the Jivamukti Yoga method?
Although this method is deeply rooted in ancient yoga teachings, it adapts perfectly to the modern lifestyle. The founders, Sharon Gannon and David Life, had an exceptional ability to transmit classic Eastern teachings to the Western world in a fun and loving way, without losing their essence. They emphasize that the practice off the mat is just as important as the practice on the mat. For a teacher, this method offers a safe structure while leaving space for individual creativity.

7) What is your favorite Jivamukti Yoga sequence and why?
Currently, our favorite theme for the new  sequence is the one Sharon Gannon offered during her 2025 tour. It is graceful, flowing, and elegant, and was, of course, created by Padma-ji.

8) Can you share a memorable moment from a class at your studio?
The Satsang Sharon Gannon offered at our studio last April. Having the honor of hosting the method’s founder in a studio that had been open for just a few months will certainly be remembered by both the teachers and practitioners forever.

9) What’s the best feedback you’ve received from a student?
We treasure all feedback, making it difficult to recall just one. Visiting and local practitioners often compliment us on:

– The strong connection to our lineage teachers: Sharon Gannon, David Life, Yogeswari, Lady Ruth, and Nives Gobbo.

– The respect shown for past teachers and the teachings themselves.

– The feeling of being welcome and cared for, regardless of experience level.

– The teachers’ knowledge and high professional standards.

– The atmosphere and cleanliness of the space.

– The fact that there is always some fun involved.

11) What type of classes or events do you offer that are unique to your studio?
We offer special classes focused on a particular theme, Yin Yoga and Sound, and co-taught classes to emphasize the interconnection among the teachers and signal community to the practitioners.

12) Can you share a fun fact  about your studio’s history or inception?
The existence of the studio itself is a fun fact. We are four women of different ages, backgrounds, viewpoints, and visions, united by our love for this method. This unity led to the foundation of a company and the opening of Jivamukti Yoga Rome. Everyone laughed and thought we wouldn’t last a year, yet here we are, with ups and downs, but still happy together no matter what.

13) What are your future plans or goals for your studio?
To continue to grow as humans, as teachers, and as a community that spreads these teachings for the well-being of all.

 14) What do you hope students take away from their experience at your studio?
We hope practitioners leave with a good feeling about themselves and the community, a growing interest in the teachings and the method, and something they can apply in their daily lives to become more aware of the interconnectedness among beings, things, and events. We hope they are open to trying their best to see themselves in others and others in themselves, thereby awakening tolerance and understanding, which will serve them to interact with kindness.

15) How do you stay connected with the global community?
We maintain connection by inviting our main teachers, Yogeswari, Lady Ruth, and other colleagues, to offer their teachings, as well as through personal contacts, tribe gatherings, retreats, and other Jivamukti Yoga events.

16) What is your favourite time of day for sadhana and why?

– Jutta – Urvashi: Generally in the mornings, depending on the season and place, when everything is still quiet, setting the right mood for the day.

– Benedetta: Early morning, for the peaceful energy.

– Chiara: Mid-morning, the only time for my me-time.

– Giulia: Early morning, because the rest of the world is still sleeping

 17) What is your Favorite Vegan Recipe: Vignarola (Roman Spring Vegetable Medley)

Ingredients: Fava beans, peas, artichokes, leeks, and romaine lettuce.

Instructions:

  1. Clean and prep all vegetables: shell the peas and fava beans, trim and thinly slice the artichokes, slice the leek, and shred the romaine.
  2. Warm extra-virgin olive oil in a pot and gently cook the leek until soft.
  3. Add the sliced artichokes and let them soften; a splash of white wine can be added for brightness.
  4. Stir in the peas and fava beans, cooking on low heat until they begin to turn tender. Add a little water if needed.
  5. Finish by adding the romaine, letting it wilt into the vegetables.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, and add a few fresh mint or mentuccia leaves.
