DURING Teacher Training

Generally speaking if the student commits to being present for every class session offered during the course certification is assured, but If you don’t show up for classes and refuse to do the required work including prerequisite readings and book commentaries you might not receive a diploma of certification at the time of graduation.

In India, all students must stay at the Govardhan Ecovillage. At other venues, students may be permitted to stay off site, please email tt@jivamuktiyoga.com for more information.

I can not get away for a month, can I take the training in modules?

One of the essential components of the JYTT program is immersion into your practice and the month-long commitment and shared experience is what makes this training so potent and special. We do not offer it in modules and though we understand it can be difficult to get away for a month, we encourage you to view it as an essential part of the training.

Can I bring my spouse/kids with me to the training?
In most circumstances, yes! Each year several people bring their loved ones in order to be able to attend. Please inquire to find out if this would work for you and your family.

AFTER Teacher Training

After I get certified can I automatically open my own jivamukti yoga center?

Successful completion of the program will certify you to teach Jivamukti Yoga and that is a first step, but in order to open a Jivamukti Yoga center, you must have received Advanced Certification. You are of course free to open/own a studio and teach Jivamukti Yoga classes, but it cannot be called a Jivamukti Yoga studio without meeting the requirements.

Does the training count towards Yoga Alliance Certification

Jivamukti Yoga is one of the 9 internationally recognized methods of Hatha Yoga, and considered by many to be the most comprehensive Yoga Teacher Training available. Jivamukti certified teachers teach at studios, programs and festivals all over the world. Because Jivamukti Yoga School does not recognize the Yoga Alliance as the universal governing authority on Yoga, JY school chooses not to be a member of YA. The coursework and curriculum for Jivamukti TT far surpass the YA requirements for RYT 200 hr certification. That said, some teachers choose to take the Jivamukti course and then supplement with additional YA recognized courses if they feel the need to be YA certified for any reason. An article was recently published by Yoga Teacher Central about the nature of Yoga Alliance, accreditation and certification versus registry/database. Please read here for more information, facts and figures.

Can I go ahead and take the 800 hour Teacher Training if I'm already certified yoga teacher trough another TT program?

No, in order to qualify for the 800 hr apprenticeship program you must have completed the 300 hr Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training program. It is the foundation course for the method and learning to teach Jivamukti Yoga.
