In conversation with Jivamukti Peace Yoga Berlin Studio Founders, Moritz Ulrich, Dr. Niklas Noack

1) What inspired you to open a Jivamukti Yoga studio?
We wanted to create a space where people could experience the transformative power of Jivamukti Yoga—a practice that has deeply shaped our own lives. Opening this studio was our way of sharing that passion and building a community rooted in compassion, growth, and connection. Of course, our own love of the method is the main driving force that nourishes all of our actions related to the school.

2) How would you describe the mood of your studio in three words?
Light, supportive and with a deep sense of community.

2) How would you describe the mood of your studio in three words?
Welcoming, empowering, vibrant.

3) What’s the most unique fact around your studio?
Our studio is a true reflection of our shared vision—a combination of authenticity, warmth, and dedication to yogic teachings. Many of our students say it feels like a home away from home. This is also our main slogan “Welcome Home”. We truly are a family business, a married couple, Moritz and Niklas and Moritz´ parents Ursula and Torsten are a part of the core team. Whenever needed, other family members, friends and relatives are always there to support!

4) Which teachers are currently offering 500HR Jivamukti Apprenticeships at the studio?
We have many teachers available as mentors and more are joining the Continuing Education team every year. The ones currently being active mentors are: Martyna Dharmina Febre, Dana Sertel, Moritz Ulrich, Philippa von Heyden and Annina Lingens. Others include: Julia Pinter, Christine Lauritzen, Ulrike Kremer and Christian Porzig.

5) How does your studio contribute to the local community?
We offer our weekly Satsang and Kirtan which attracts many people from the local area to share questions, sing together and sit in silence. In 2025 we will begin offering very low-priced memberships that are financed by slightly higher regular prices, so more people can afford to attend classes. We offer different donation events in collaboration with the local offices of PETA as well as for local charity organizations.

6) What do you love most about the Jivamukti Yoga method?
We love how it seamlessly integrates physical practice, meditation, chanting, and philosophy. It’s a method that doesn’t just work on the mat but inspires us to live more compassionately every day. Another thing we really enjoy is how different a Jivamukti Yoga class can be. The essence of Jivamukti Yoga with its five tenets nourishes every class, while it can still play out in many different ways: slow, fast, classical music, mantras or electronic music, challenging or very basic Asanas.

7) What is your favorite Jivamukti Yoga sequence and why?
The Magic Ten holds a special place in our hearts. It’s short yet powerful, providing a complete practice that aligns body and mind in just a few minutes.

8) Can you share a memorable moment from a class at your studio?
There are too many to choose just one. What inspires me the most is how everyone supports each other. If ever someone is feeling unwell, there will always be someone else looking out for them. May that be right in that moment or later on by maybe also giving the studio feedback on how to be of better service.

9) What’s the best feedback you’ve received from a student?
One student told us, “Your studio is the only place where I feel truly seen and supported.” That feedback touched us deeply because it encapsulates why we do what we do.

10) What is one piece of advice you have for someone new to Jivamukti Yoga?
Come with curiosity and a willingness to explore. You don’t have to be perfect—just be open to the experience and enjoy the process.

11) What type of classes or events do you offer that are unique to your studio?
Our Hands-On Assists workshops, continuing education programs for teachers, and our vibrant Kirtan evenings are some of the unique offerings that make our studio special.

12) Can you share a fun fact about your studio’s history or inception?
It is just truly amazing how we went from classes with 0 people in it to classes with 63 students. We continued, no matter what, together with our great community of teachers and students!

13) What are your future plans or goals for your studio?
We hope to expand our offerings with more advanced teacher trainings and specialized workshops while continuing to nurture the strong sense of community we’ve built. We also want to work on more inclusive pricing and transparency. We believe that yoga studios should be a “third space” where people can meet, connect and grow outside of their homes and workplaces.

14) What do you hope students take away from their experience at your studio?
We hope they leave feeling inspired, connected, and empowered—ready to bring what they’ve learned into their lives off the mat.

15) How do you stay connected with the global Jivamukti Yoga community?
We stay connected by attending and teaching workshops, training, and events around the world. It’s important to us to contribute to the global Jivamukti community while learning and growing alongside it.

16) What is your favorite time of day for your sadhana and why?
We both love practicing in the early morning. There’s something magical about starting the day in stillness and setting a grounded, intentional tone for what’s to come.

17) What is your favorite vegan recipe?
One of our go-to recipes is a hearty vegan pasta bolognese with fried tofu, fresh tomatoes, celery, carrots and freshly grated vegan parmesan.
