DISCOVER JIVAMUKTI YOGA HAMBURG
In conversation with Jivamukti Yoga Hamburg Studio Founders, Janka Oeljeschlager, Marie Claussen.
1) What inspired you to open a Jivamukti Yoga studio?
Janka and Marie wanted to practice Jivamukti. Just Jivamukti – there was no studio yet in Hamburg. So we opened one. Happy ever since.
2) How would you describe the mood of your studio in three words?
Calm, empowering, oasis.
3) What’s the most unique fact around your studio?
The location and the people who visit.
4) Which teachers are currently offering 500HR Jivamukti Apprenticeships at the studio?
Janka and Marie.
5) How does your studio contribute to the local community?
The students love to come around, recharge and leave full circle.
6) What do you love most about the Jivamukti Yoga method?
The complete package. At the same time, the method gives freedom in the teaching style and still provides the necessary framework to be able to expect the same quality everywhere in the world. The method can be kept physically demanding if necessary, which many of our students really like. The method captures yoga in its diversity in the best possible way.
7) What is your favorite Jivamukti Yoga sequence and why?
We like Blossoming Lotus (love the stretch even if it’s challenging for most of the students), Hippie Twist (wonderful for the hips) and Standing Spinal Twist (because it’s fun but for most students also quite challenging nowadays)
8) Can you share a memorable moment from a class at your studio?
The first Om when we opened the studio with all who have been there was just deeply touching. Generally speaking the energy that develops when teacher and student flow together through the class in a collective meditation.
9) What’s the best feedback you’ve received from a student?
There have been so many beautiful and delightful things they have said to us. We realize that through the method we have been able to lift people up in many different ways. They feel nourished and somehow through practicing they are able to change their perspective and broaden their horizons. Luckily, that happens all the time.
10) What is one piece of advice you have for someone new to Jivamukti Yoga?
Never stop being a student. Never put yourself above the students, but walk the path together with them. Never think that you know everything better or know it all.
11) What type of classes or events do you offer that are unique to your studio?
A lot of inversion workshops. We have great guest teachers from around the world, and teach the well known and very beloved chakra tuning class in well-considered intervals.
12) Can you share a fun fact about your studio’s history or inception?
It’s all so much fun. Having this place, our community, all the people that work for us.
13)Â What are your future plans or goals for your studio?
Happy as it is.
14) What do you hope students take away from their experience at your studio?
Peace.
15) How do you stay connected with the global Jivamukti Yoga community?
It happens all by itself, if you enjoy your job as a Yoga teacher and are interested in people.
16) What is your favorite time of day for your sadhana and why?
In the morning. We are calm and the mind is rather free.
17) What is your favorite vegan recipe?
Hummus, it always is! Easy-peasy and always good to go, best on top of everything and delicious as a snack. Pure hummus-love!
Our favorite recipe: 700 g cooked chickpeas (or 350 g dried chickpeas) 1 tsp baking soda 1 lemon 2 cloves of garlic 100 g tahini 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp salt.
