DISCOVER JIVAMUKTI YOGA LUXEMBOURG
1) What inspired you to open a Jivamukti Yoga studio?
Our deep passion for the transformative and creative method of Jivamukti Yoga, combined with the desire to build a school in central Europe where there can be a vivid exchange of inspirations and build a network, inspired us to open a Jivamukti studio.
After five years, it’s beautiful to see so many students participating in teacher training and sharing our passion for Jivamukti. The intention behind this practice led us to aim to create a space where Yoga is shared as an expression of kindness, compassion, and connectedness.
2) How would you describe the mood of your studio in three words?
Light, supportive and with a deep sense of community.
3) What’s the most unique fact around your studio?
The space in which Jivamukti Yoga Luxembourg was born was originally an old Christian chapel! When we first entered, the Stations of the Cross were still on the walls, and we were fortunate to be able to preserve one of the chapel’s stained glass windows in our studio. The window depicts the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary by the angel Gabriel, with the inscription ‘Ecce Ancilla Domini,’ which is a reminder to cultivate humility and do our best to be conduits of goodness.
4) Which teachers are currently offering 500HR Jivamukti Apprenticeships at the studio?
Magali Lehners and Alexandra Colombo
5) How does your studio contribute to the local community?
In addition to striving to create a space where everyone is welcome, we do our best to regularly organise charity and donation-based classes and Kirtan to support both local and international organizations.
We are also grateful that our space is open to the “Fondation Cancer” – classes for people and families affected by cancer.
6) What do you love most about the Jivamukti Yoga method?
The focus on kindness and compassion that guides us to live consciously and with intention on and off the mat and the creativity of this method.
7) What is your favorite Jivamukti Yoga sequence and why?
Our favorite sequence is Jivamukti Surya Namaskar. Quoting our beloved teacher Sharon Gannon, “When asanas, the sequence of changes, are woven together with breath and conscious intention, we align ourselves with the continuous flow, the undulating rhythm of the universe”.
8) Can you share a memorable moment from a class at your studio?
The opening of the studio, when all our friends and teachers from the Jivamukti community and our families were celebrating during Kirtan, was probably the most memorable moment.
Seeing everyone from diverse backgrounds dancing, chanting, and sharing joy truly embodied the spirit of community, which is what we love most about our studio.
9) What’s the best feedback you’ve received from a student?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, while we were going to the studio to stream classes, we found almost every day presents, cards, cakes, biscuits in front of our studio. This was the most beautiful form of feedback we could imagine — mutual giving and receiving.
10) What is one piece of advice you have for someone new to Jivamukti Yoga?
Be curious, listen and chant loud!
11) What type of classes or events do you offer that are unique to your studio?
In addition to the classes that follow the Jivamukti curriculum, one of the highlights is the senior and teenager classes! We regularly organize gatherings in epic locations, like art galleries and theaters to bring our community together to create art with our favorite photographer Richard Pilnick. A time to come together and create. Linked to the artistic founders of the method, we offer Yoga and ceramics to our students as well as forest bathing and reconnecting to nature through classes within the beautiful forests of Luxembourg. We are also grateful that our space hosts Yoga for Cancer classes through the “Fondation Cancer” institution.
There is no age limit or condition for starting to practice; if we can breathe, we can practice.
12) Can you share a fun fact about your studio’s history or inception?
When we transitioned from Yoga Palais to Jivamukti Yoga Luxembourg, to announce the new studio, we created photographic graphic novels, integrating different texts and comedy into marketing. Please see attached the 3 first stories.
13) What are your future plans or goals for your studio?
Our studio has always been a hub for inspiration and creativity, and we’re excited to expand our offerings. We plan to incorporate more philosophical discussions, connecting with the broader academic community in Luxembourg. Our goal is to continue creating art with our extended community, raising awareness of Yoga and Jivamukti in everyday life. We also aim to bridge Yoga with the art world through photographic exhibitions and other creative collaborations.
14) What do you hope students take away from their experience at your studio?
We hope that our students leave with a sense of inclusion, softness, kindness and also fun, carrying with them the idea that each of us can contribute to making the world a little better than we found it.
15) How do you stay connected with the global Jivamukti Yoga community?
Spending time with our Jivamukti friends and teachers through traveling and going to their classes and workshops. The Jivamukti Yoga Tribe Gathering is also a lovely moment to gather.
16) What is your favorite time of day for your sadhana and why?
Early morning with no hesitation. The mind is calmer and hasn’t yet been exposed to too many external stimuli.
17) What is your favorite vegan recipe?
We are both chocolate lovers so…Quinoa brownies with peanut butter frosting. Our tip: even better with crunchy peanut butter!
