Charter for Change: The Next Steps

by Jivamukti Editorial Team |

We believe that if we want to impact the world in a time that is most needed, then we must act to stimulate change by getting to the root of the issue. We truly believe that we must manifest what we practice every day on our mats – and start creating the change we want to see in the world.

As one of our teachers once said “yoga is not about blissing yourself out on the mat and then going back to your daily life (without noticing any changes around you), but rather an integration of the practices into your life by taking action out into your communities.” Charter for Change is a call to action platform that aims to accelerate collective progress in our society.

Based on Jivamukti’s Core Philosophy, we will investigate topics and approaches that are most relevant in these times and we will be hosting a monthly panel discussion using selected themes.

The Five Pillars of Charter for Change are:

  1. Racial Justice
  2. Gender Equality
  3. Income Equity
  4. Animal Rights
  5. Environmental Consciousness

The calendar for the next 7 months:

  • November The Root of Social and Cultural Inequity
  • December Paths to Healing Post-Genocide*
  • January Inclusive Leadership
  • February Pervasive Effects of Income Inequity
  • March Veganism: Can we end factory farming?
  • April Environmental: Less is adequate
  • May Gender: How does gender play into parenting?

In addition, we will be developing some programs to impact communities through different strategies that we will share with you. We believe that it is possible to live in a world in which all human activity is ecologically sensitive, so that we can function in ways that ensure longevity, well-being, and a support system of the habitants – through just economic, social, and political approaches.
