HUNDREDS OF GLOBAL YOGA PRACTITIONERS MEET IN NEW YORK CITY FOR THE 2018 JIVAMUKTI® WORLD TRIBE GATHERING – JANUARY 5-10, 2018

Presenters include Jivamukti Yoga® Co-founder David Life, acclaimed musician Wah! and more than 15 top international yoga teachers and performers.

NEW YORK, NY – JANUARY 3, 2018 – The 2018 Jivamukti® World Tribe Gathering, presented by Jivamukti® Global, will feature five days of curated yoga classes, meditations, kirtan music performances and film screenings at Jivamukti Yoga® School NYC near Union Square, Manhattan. The event runs January 5–10.

The World Tribe Gathering is the annual flagship event for the Jivamukti Yoga® Method founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life in 1984. They are recognized as innovators of modern yoga, as The New York Times described: “Without Jivamukti®, yoga would still be an obscure practice of a few.” The 12,000 square-foot Jivamukti Yoga® School at 841 Broadway off Union Square is one of the largest and oldest yoga centers in the United States.

This year’s World Tribe Gathering reflects the diversity of the worldwide Jivamukti® community. Yoga classes will be taught by Co-founder David Life and popular advanced certified Jivamukti® teachers from across the globe: Camilla Veen (Stavanger, Norway), Yogeswari (Int’l), Jules Febre (Int’l), Rima Rani Rabbath (NY), Ruth Lauer-Manenti (NY), Christian Montegut (NY), Emma Henry (UK), Monica Jaggi (NY), Mortiz Ulrich (Berlin) and Olga Oskorbina (Barcelona).

Nightly evening programs will include live music by John McDowell & Conscious Nadam, Laaraji, Wah! and the NYC Kirtan Band (comprised entirely of Jivamukti® teachers), as well as a screening and Q&A for the film On Yoga: The Architecture of Peace.

“Ever since Gabriela Bozic initiated the first Jivamukti® Tribe Gathering in Munich Germany in 2009, it has been a thrilling occasion for the honoring of our common roots and the creation of a global satsang,” said Life, who developed this year’s theme Celebrating the heritage of our tribal roots. “I have been doing a lot of research on the theme of Tribe to prepare, and feel that my own awareness of genetic history and relationship to our global family has grown dramatically. Indeed, modern geneticists and anthropologists believe that we all owe our existence to a small tribe of people that made their way out of Africa about 90,000 years ago.”

“Yogis like to bring it all together and that is what our intention is each year at the Jivamukti Yoga® Tribe Gathering. All tribes are welcome.”

Attendees can enjoy vegan offerings from the Jivamuktea® Café and shop at the Jivamukti® Boutique that stocks items made from organic and sustainable materials.
