Message from Jivamukti Global on March 13, 2020

Dear Friends and Yogis

We are writing to express our solidarity with you all as our Jivamukti Yoga community, while we all try to keep pace and make sense with the unprecedented and sudden changes to our lives in many parts of the world due the COVID-19 outbreak. We send you warm greetings and best wishes for good health and safety for yourself, your family, your community and country, wherever you are.

As travel and movement restrictions are still fluid and developing for the next several weeks and months, our upcoming May Tribe Gathering planned for Barcelona will be postponed to October 1-4th 2020 at the same location (MACBA)**. Once the details are confirmed, we will notify you immediately. We are also in communication with Sharon Gannon about this decision. We are proceeding with an abundance of caution as the next few weeks will be crucial for several countries, as they try to contain the spread and help their citizens recover and establish safety and trust.

For climate change activists, for animal rights activists and for yogis, this is a unique moment in history and a stark “I told you so” moment.  Even though climate change has been systematically ravaging the planet in recent years, with plenty of red flags and warnings all around us, and while wealth and resource inequity has been increasing, we have not witnessed any urgency from the powers to be to find solutions. Those powers to be include all of us. Particularly at this time, no one can blame any singular set of people or countries, but we must look at humanity as a collective and its relationship with the earth. This is precisely what Sharon Gannon and David Life have been teaching for over 40 years. As students and teachers of Jivamukti Yoga, and now in particular, it is time to truly apply the teachings. Teachings that implore us and empower us with equanimity and grace essential to overcome a global crisis such as COVID.

Jivamukti Yoga has been infused with special spiritual energy, comprising of the life work of Sharon and David and their incredible teachers representing amazing lineages. These wisdom traditions from all cultures, spiritual traditions and religions have often come to the aid of people when we are faced with a crisis. The human race is extremely resilient and has risen to the occasion in the past. Now, once again, we must implement systemic changes to our lifestyles, so we are more aligned with a better way to live on this precious planet. As you know, we have little choice in the matter.

Practically speaking for the here and now, the Jivamukti Yoga Chant Book has many prayers, mantras, verses and chants that provide a wonderful refuge and when chanted in unison across our satsang. These powerful hymns invoke healing energy, spread compassion and happiness to people who are sick, anxious or nervous about the future and assist those who are on the front lines and working very hard to help people: healthcare workers, emergency personnel, leaders, scientists and many others.

We wish and pray that everyone be healthy, safe and have enough to eat and may God (whichever God you worship in whatever form) provide the best, quickest possible healing to the millions of affected individuals all over the world.

Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu (Chant 108 times at least once a day with your friends, family and students). That’s our prayer.

Kind regards
